SCIENCE –

Hi Year 4! Your science activities for the next week weeks will focus on our new science topic: Living Things and Their Habitats! For your science activity this week we will be thinking about all the different ways that we can group different animals. We will look at using different diagrams and different criteria to group animals.  Use this link , to help you begin to understand some of the different ways in which animals can be grouped.  Then look through this PowerPoint which further explores the 5 key groups of animals classes.  Then can you please create a colourful and informative poster or leaflet about the 5 animal classes, using images and information to express your knowledge of these!

Challenge: Could you then think about other ways in which animals could be grouped, based on their physical features? Their habitats? Or think of your own criteria! Then please create a Venn or Carroll diagram to show the different ways in which you can group animals. Look at these examples of Venn and Carroll diagrams below to help you.

Project Work:

As part of topic work, we have been looking at different locations of wind turbines and your task today is to create of design brief for your wind turbine and think about where you might place it in school. When designing your wind turbine, think about where you might place it and draw different views of your turbine front back and side views with annotations around your drawings.

  • Maths – Hi Year 4! Monday’s Maths game is all about sharing, which we know also means division! Today we will be sharing Miss. Goley’s favourite thing… cakes! Read the instructions carefully and think about our work on division with remainders!The answers are below the game if you need them- please only use them to check your answer!Maths we will be continuing our work on Fractions. Today’s learning will be about subtracting fractions- building on our learning from last week with addition.Aim: To subtract two or more fractions with the same denominator.First watch this short clip to demonstrate how to subtract fractions with the same denominators.Then look through this PowerPoint.  Then can you please complete the 20 subtractions questions in Activity 1. If you get stuck or you find it a bit tricky- go back to the PowerPoint or the video! English – Today you will be creating an informative poster or informative leaflet (a tri-fold leaflet) about everything you have learned about wind power over the past few weeks. Therefore, I would like you to include four sub headings of your choice e.g. What is wind power?

Here is a sheet about the features of a poster for you to refer to. Wind Power websites ( One and Two) you can access to help you with ideas and for factual information.

  • Maths – Happy Tuesday Year 4! Tuesday’s Maths game is all about going to the shops, although the shops at the moment aren’t looking quite as well stocked! You will be using your knowledge of money to work out what coins you will need to buy all of the items on your shopping list. Check carefully that you have the right amount.  The answers are below the game if you need them- please only use them to check your answer!In Maths today we will be continuing our work on Fractions. Today’s learning will be building on our knowledge of subtracting fractions- thinking about our learning from yesterday.   • English -Morning, hope you are doing well this morning! Our Big project question: How can our choices improve the planet? Therefore, you will be doing some research about the big and small changes we can make to help our planet.Please could you complete the activity in one of the following ways either:-Bullet point the information-create a spider diagram-collect the information and present it in a leaflet format. Please read this document and at the bottom of this sheet there are links that you can use for your research. English language punctuation game such as the full stop, question mark, comma, apostrophe, exclamation mark and inverted commas. Read the sentences, aim the target and fire the correct punctuation where you think it should go in the sentence. Use the proper punctuation in the right location and you can move on to the next challenge, keep going and see if you can complete this interactive activity.

Hope you’re having a wonderful Wednesday Year 4! Today’s Maths game is all about going to the post office. You will be using your knowledge of reading scales to read the scales first and then try to work out what each scale may have on it, using their descriptions! Can you then draw them into the empty scales?

In Maths today we will be continuing our work on fractions. Today’s learning will be building on our knowledge of subtracting fractions from yesterday and we will be subtracting fractions from whole numbers again.

Aim: To subtract fractions from whole amounts.

You will  complete the ‘classroom secrets’ subtracting fractions from whole amounts sheet. You need to use the bar models carefully to check each of the four children’s answers. Some are correct and some are not correct – you need to check their answers carefully.

In Maths today we will be continuing our work on fractions. Today’s learning will be building on our knowledge of fractions and will be calculating fractions of a quantity.

Aim: To calculate fractions of a quantity.

You will complete the worksheet here which starts by using pictorial images to help support your understanding of fractions of quantities and then moves on to working out the answers without the pictures of cakes to help you! If you find this second bit tricky, you can draw out your own bar models or use counters or something else at home to help you!

If you get stuck or you find it a bit tricky- remember you can use counters to help you. You can also check your questions with the answers.
